Protective stlye; hair growth challange

official length check

A few weeks back I got a tag on Instagram by a fellow naturalista on a hair growth challenge which started last week on Saturday on the 17th.  I officially started the challenge three days later and I decided to share this experience with you. So the first step is to do a length check and then commit to a protective style and a particular hair regimen in order to see if there will be an improvement in hair growth and length retention.

I had my big chop on 14th of January 2015, and my journey has lasted about 2 years 5 months. I’ve had a love-hate relationship with my hair while trying to learn what my hair loves and what it doesn’t. It’s like it has a mind of its own, I can’t force it to do what it doesn’t want to. So I started off with a two strand mini twist which I usually have as protective style if I don’t have any extensions.

mini twist

I chose this hair style firstly because it’s easy to do and took me less than an hour to get them done. Secondly, it’s very easy to moisturize my hair unlike when I have hair extensions like braids. My hair is usually very soft and healthy by the time am taking them down. Just in case you didn’t check out my previous post on products I use to moisturize my hair you can take a look at them over here.

I can go up to three or four weeks with this hair style but I opt to have it for two weeks just because my kinky hair starts matting. So that’s pretty much it.  One more thing, anyone is invited to join the challenge. You can look at the requirements over here .  If  you are interested just post a photo of you on Instagram with that hashtag and be sure to often share your natural hair tips in regards to the challenge.

Lots of Love
